Recent inspections by Telangana’s Commissioner of Food Safety in Secunderabad, Aramghar, and surrounding areas have unveiled significant food safety issues across several restaurants. The inspections, conducted by a specialized Food Safety Task Force, aimed to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
On August 20, 2024, the task force visited multiple establishments, beginning with Secret Kitchen in Padmarao Nagar, Secunderabad. While the restaurant adhered to some protocols, including proper food storage and pest control measures, several lapses were noted. The kitchen window lacked an insect-proof screen, water was stagnated in kitchen drains, and Medical Fitness Certificates for food handlers were missing.
Golden Crown, another restaurant in Padmarao Nagar, was found operational without a valid FSSAI license. Issues included missing Medical Fitness Certificates for food handlers, inadequate pest control records, and non-compliance with hygiene standards, such as the absence of haircaps, aprons, and gloves for handlers. The restaurant also had unlabelled biscuit packets and poorly maintained kitchen facilities.
At 4M Biryani House in Bholakpur, Musheerabad, the task force observed several violations, including a lack of insect-proof screens, slippery flooring, and uncovered semi-cooked food. Dustbins without lids and missing Medical Fitness Certificates for food handlers further compounded the issues.
The following day, inspections in the Aramghar area revealed severe violations at Dar Al Mandi. The restaurant did not provide its FSSAI license and was found to be using synthetic food colors in non-veg dishes, which were discarded. The kitchen lacked proper pest control measures, including insect-proof screens and tightly fitted doors. The premises were deemed “highly unhygienic,” with houseflies present and no dustbins on site.
Golden Pears restaurant, also inspected on August 21, 2024, faced criticism for operating with a registration certificate instead of a state license. The establishment lacked pest control records and Medical Fitness Certificates for food handlers. Synthetic food colors and expired milk packets were discarded, and unlabelled ghee packets were found in a poorly maintained refrigerator.
The task force’s findings highlight ongoing concerns about food safety and hygiene in the region, emphasizing the need for stringent compliance with health regulations. The inspections underscore the importance of maintaining high standards to ensure the safety and well-being of consumers.
