Delhi Police Seeks CBI Help via Interpol in Investigating Hoax Bomb Threat

Delhi Police has reached out to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) via Interpol channels for information regarding a hoax bomb threat email sent to over 150 schools in the National Capital Region (NCR). The CBI, functioning as India’s National Central Bureau and known as Interpol India, is responsible for communication and coordination with Interpol.

The Delhi Police aims to gather details about the email’s origin, including the IP address and sender, to unravel the conspiracy and motive behind the threat. The agency suspects a deeper conspiracy possibly orchestrated by a terror group during the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. There are indications that the email might have been sent by an ISIS module.

The email, reportedly sent from a mail.ru server, claimed the presence of explosives on school premises, leading to widespread panic, evacuations, and searches across Delhi-NCR. However, subsequent investigations revealed the threat to be a hoax as no dangerous items were found.

Delhi Police’s Special Cell has registered a case under relevant legal provisions for offenses like conspiracy and threat. A dedicated team is actively investigating the matter, focusing on the possibility of the email being sent through VPN and the dark web, which allow individuals to conceal their identity and location online.
