PM Modi Inaugurates World's Largest Diamond Traders' Office in Surat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a historic moment today as he inaugurated the world’s largest office space, catering as a “one-stop destination” for over 65,000 diamond traders in Gujarat’s bustling city, Surat. This colossal 15-storey building sprawls across a vast 35-acre expanse, surpassing the grandeur of the Pentagon, the iconic headquarters of the US Department of Defense.

Nestled within the Diamond Research and Mercantile City, a business district reminiscent of the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (Gift City), another flagship project spearheaded by Prime Minister Modi, this architectural marvel is the brainchild of Indian architecture firm Morphogenesis. Their design, selected through an international competition, captures the essence of opulence and functionality.

The aesthetics of the office complex draw inspiration from the concept of Panchtatva, symbolizing the five fundamental elements. With a staggering 4,500 offices catering to national and international traders, the Surat Diamond Bourse heralds a new era in diamond trading infrastructure. Mahesh Gadhavi, the project’s CEO, highlighted to CNN the immense convenience this complex offers, eliminating the need for countless traders to commute daily to Mumbai for business dealings.

Spanning 20 lakh square feet, the complex not only boasts a recreational zone but also accommodates extensive parking facilities. Historically, Surat has been a pivotal trade hub connecting India with nations like Britain, the Netherlands, and Portugal, owing to its strategic location along the Arabian Sea coast.

Operated as a not-for-profit organization under the SDB Diamond Bourse, a company registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013, this ambitious endeavor aims to promote and establish a thriving Diamond Bourse in Surat, Gujarat.

The inauguration of this monumental office complex stands as a testament to India’s economic ambitions and strategic initiatives under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, revolutionizing the landscape of diamond trading and reinforcing Surat’s historical legacy as a vital trade gateway.
