Leela Rani Kodali began her professional journey as an English teacher. Her dedication, innovative teaching practices, and student-focused approach led to her appointment as Principal of Padma Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai, an institution run by Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao.

During her tenure, she played a significant role in improving academic standards and nurturing holistic student development. In recognition of her contributions to education, she received the Best Teacher Award from the then Mayor of Chennai, M. K. Stalin.
