At Least 15 Tents Destroyed in Fire at Maha Kumbh, No Casualties Reported

A fire broke out on Thursday at the Maha Kumbh Mela site in Prayagraj, burning at least 15 tents, though authorities confirmed there were no casualties or injuries. The fire occurred near Chamanganj Chowki outside Sector 22 of the sprawling religious gathering area.

Chief Fire Officer (Kumbh) Pramod Sharma confirmed that the fire was reported in the afternoon, and emergency responders swiftly extinguished the flames. However, he mentioned that the narrow roads in the area posed a significant challenge for fire engines, which had difficulty accessing the spot. Despite this, the fire was brought under control and fully extinguished in a short time.

“There was no loss of life or injury in the incident,” Sharma said, reassuring the public about the safety of those in the vicinity. According to local authorities, the 15 tents destroyed in the fire were deemed unauthorized. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns at large-scale events like the Maha Kumbh Mela, where millions of pilgrims gather each year. Though this fire did not result in injuries, officials are taking precautions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the investigation into the fire continues, authorities are also reviewing safety measures and fire prevention strategies in the crowded areas of the Mela, ensuring that future incidents can be handled even more efficiently.
