Madhya Pradesh CM Yadav Plans to Ban Liquor in Religious Cities Following Complaints from Public and Seers

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has revealed plans to ban alcohol sales in the state’s religious cities, following increasing public complaints and recommendations from religious leaders. CM Yadav made the statement during a recent interaction with news agency ANI, confirming that the state government is seriously considering amendments to its policies regarding alcohol sales in these sacred towns.

The move comes in response to concerns raised by local communities and spiritual leaders about the impact of alcohol on the religious environment. “Many seers have given suggestions, and our government is seriously considering that we should close these excise shops within the limits of our religious cities. We believe this will address the complaints of people regarding the atmosphere in these areas,” CM Yadav stated.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the policy change would take concrete steps towards maintaining a more spiritual and sacred environment in these regions. Yadav also indicated that a decision on the matter would be made soon, as the current budget year approaches its end.

Alongside the liquor ban proposal, CM Yadav is also set to take part in the Bhoomi Pujan of the ₹614 crore Sevarkhedi-Silarkhedi project in Ujjain. The project aims to improve the water supply in Ujjain by maintaining the water level of the Kshipra River. Yadav was joined by Union Minister CR Patil for the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony, which marks the start of a significant step in addressing water shortages in the region.

The Sevarkhedi-Silarkhedi project will ensure that the residents of Ujjain have access to sufficient drinking water. It also aims to provide a reliable water source for the Simhastha Mela, a significant religious event where thousands of devotees take a ritual bath in the Kshipra River. “With this project, we will be able to make our saints bathe with the sacred water of the holy Kshipra River during Simhastha 2028,” said Yadav, adding that the development would ensure a steady supply of water for religious ceremonies.

Previously, during the Simhastha Mela of 2016, the saints bathed in the water of the Narmada River due to the low water levels in the Kshipra. However, with the completion of the new project, the Kshipra River will be able to provide a year-round supply of water, offering a more permanent solution to the region’s water scarcity.

Yadav’s statements reflect the government’s focus on enhancing the religious and spiritual experience in Madhya Pradesh while addressing critical infrastructural needs in the state’s holy cities.
