3 Maoists Killed in Encounter With Security Forces in Chhattisgarh

Three Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sukma district on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma announced. The operation marked another significant achievement in the ongoing fight against Maoist insurgency in the region.

The encounter occurred in a forested area along the Sukma-Bijapur border during an anti-Maoist operation conducted by a joint team comprising personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and the CoBRA unit of the CRPF.

“So far, the bodies of three Maoists have been recovered, and the search operation is still underway,” Sharma told reporters in Raipur. He also highlighted the heightened determination of security forces following a deadly IED blast on January 6, which claimed the lives of eight personnel and a civilian driver in Bijapur.

“There is huge anger among security forces after the recent Maoist attack,” Sharma said. “With the strength and courage of our jawans, the Maoist menace will be eliminated within the stipulated time.”

Union Home Minister’s Commitment
Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently vowed to eradicate the Maoist threat by March 2026. Shah assured that the sacrifices of security personnel killed in Maoist violence would not be in vain.

Series of Encounters in Chhattisgarh
Thursday’s operation adds to a series of successful anti-Maoist actions this year. A total of nine Maoists have been killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh since January.

  • On January 6, five Maoists, including two women, were neutralized during a three-day operation in Abujhmad, a dense forest region on the border of Narayanpur, Dantewada, and Bijapur districts.
  • On January 3, another Maoist was killed in Gariaband district, part of the Raipur division.

Last year, security forces neutralized 219 Maoists in various operations across the state, highlighting the ongoing success of counter-insurgency efforts.

The state government, in collaboration with central forces, continues to intensify operations to dismantle Maoist strongholds and ensure peace in the affected regions.
