The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai is on the brink of launching the highly anticipated sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train, promising to transform overnight travel across the country. Recently unveiled images showcase the train’s luxurious interiors, cutting-edge design, and advanced features that prioritize passenger comfort.

This latest addition to the Vande Bharat portfolio expands its offerings, which previously included chair car variants and metro trains. Designed for journeys covering distances between 800 km and 1,200 km, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train aims to provide a seamless travel experience for up to 820 passengers across its 16 fully air-conditioned coaches.

Key Features

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is equipped with multiple features designed to enhance comfort and safety:

  • Sensor-Activated Doors: These innovative doors open with just a touch, providing ease of access for passengers.
  • Touch-Free Bio-Vacuum Toilets: Ensuring hygiene, these facilities allow passengers to use the restroom without physical contact.
  • Interconnecting Doors: Designed for easy access between compartments.
  • Talk-Back Units: These units improve communication between passengers and train attendants.
  • Flight-Style Attendant Buttons: Located in first-class compartments, these buttons facilitate passenger requests.

Additionally, the train includes an emergency brake system and advanced security features, such as the “Kavach” anti-collision system and anti-climbing technology, which help prevent coaches from piling on top of each other during accidents.

Testing Phase

Before its official launch, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will undergo rigorous testing over the next two months. It will be evaluated at speeds ranging from 90 km/h to 180 km/h, focusing on safety and security features. Testing will occur at the Lucknow Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and Western Railway facilities, with a completion date set for November 15.

As the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train prepares to hit the tracks, it is set to redefine overnight travel in India, offering a blend of comfort, safety, and modern amenities for passengers on long-distance journeys.
