Delhi's Air Quality Deteriorates to "Poor" as Monsoon Season Draws to a Close

As the monsoon season approaches its end, air quality in Delhi has significantly declined, with the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) registering a “poor” rating on Tuesday. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI at 9 PM was recorded at 204, marking a concerning shift in the capital’s air quality.

The AQI scale categorizes air quality levels as follows: 0-50 is considered “good,” 51-100 “satisfactory,” 101-200 “moderate,” 201-300 “poor,” 301-400 “very poor,” and 401-500 “severe.” With an AQI of 204, Delhi’s air quality falls into the “poor” category, prompting concerns among residents and officials alike.

The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi has projected that air quality might improve slightly on Wednesday, with expectations of remaining in the “moderate” category, aided by the possibility of light rain. The forecast indicates that the predominant surface winds will blow from the east/southeast at speeds of 8 to 12 km/h.

In addition to air quality concerns, weather conditions on Tuesday recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above the seasonal average. The minimum temperature was noted at 26.4 degrees Celsius, also exceeding the normal levels by 2.5 degrees. Looking ahead, the weather department predicts that Wednesday’s temperatures will stabilize around 36 degrees Celsius for the maximum and 26 degrees Celsius for the minimum.
