
Veteran Indian journalist and author Umesh Upadhyay tragically passed away on Sunday after a fatal accident at his residence in Vasant Kunj, Delhi. The incident occurred when Upadhyay, 64, fell from the fourth floor of a building he was inspecting for renovation, plunging to the second floor around 10:30 a.m.
Born in Mathura in 1959, Upadhyay had a distinguished career spanning over four decades. He began his journalism career in the early 1980s and became known for his contributions across television, print, radio, and digital media. An alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University and the Film and Television Institute of India, Upadhyay worked with several prominent media organizations, including News18, Doordarshan, and the Press Trust of India (PTI).
His death has left the media industry in mourning, with many reflecting on his substantial contributions. Upadhyay was honored with the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Award for his lifetime achievements in journalism and media. He had also recently authored a book titled “Western Media Narratives on India: From Gandhi to Modi”.
