An engineering college in Andhra Pradesh has become the epicenter of controversy after students discovered a hidden camera in the women’s toilet, leading to widespread protests and calls for justice.
The incident at Gudlavalleru Engineering College sparked outrage among students and faculty, who demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. Protests erupted outside the college’s hostel, with students chanting slogans and accusing the college administration and police of failing to address their concerns adequately.
The situation escalated when a senior student was arrested from the boys’ hostel in connection with the alleged scandal. The police, however, have stated that no hidden cameras or videos were found during their investigation. Krishna District SP Gandadhar Rao confirmed that searches of the students’ laptops, mobile phones, and other devices revealed no evidence of recorded footage.
Despite the police’s assertions, the students remain unconvinced and have criticized the authorities for not taking their claims seriously. A protesting student alleged that she had informed the college management about the camera a week ago, but no action was taken until the recent protests. The student accused the management of dismissing the issue and spreading rumors about the alleged incident being fake news.
The college’s faculty association has also expressed concern over the police’s findings, voicing their support for the students’ demand for justice. Students have alleged that the hidden camera was installed by a senior student with the assistance of a female student and that some of the recorded videos were being sold by the accused.
In response to the uproar, the Andhra Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry into the allegations. The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) stated that the Chief Minister has directed the District Collector and SP to visit the college and address the issue promptly.
The controversy has highlighted concerns about safety and privacy in educational institutions, with many calling for stronger measures to protect students and ensure that such incidents are thoroughly investigated and addressed.
