A 14-year-old boy sustained minor burn injuries after a smart TV exploded while he was watching it at his home in Ambileri, Kalpetta, on Wednesday. The boy, identified as Sajin, suffered burns on his hands and was rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

According to family members, the explosion occurred suddenly, engulfing the television in flames and spreading fire to other parts of the house, causing significant property damage. Fire and rescue services, along with local residents, quickly responded to the emergency and brought the blaze under control.

Recounting the harrowing incident, Sajin’s younger brother Immanuel said, “We were watching TV when we saw flames near the switchboard. They spread fast, and the back of the TV caught fire. My brother tried to turn it off and got burned. Then the TV exploded with a loud noise.”

Officials from the fire and rescue department suspect a short circuit as the likely cause of the explosion, though a detailed investigation is underway to confirm the exact trigger.

This incident has raised concerns over the safety of electrical appliances in households, particularly smart TVs, which are increasingly common in Indian homes.
