In a tragic accident in Maharashtra, at least 10 people were killed and several others injured when a state transport bus overturned on the Gondia-Arjuni road. The incident occurred in Bindravana Tola village, Gondia district, during the early hours of Saturday. The bus, which was traveling from Bhandara to Gondia, reportedly lost control, causing it to flip over on the side of the road.
The visuals from the accident site show a chaotic scene with a large crowd gathered around the overturned bus. Police vans, ambulances, and cranes were quickly deployed to assist the injured and clear the wreckage.
According to the police, the accident occurred when the bus driver lost control near Bindravana Tola village. The state transport bus was traveling from Nagpur to Gondia when it overturned. The police confirmed that eight people died on the spot, while around 30 others sustained injuries. The injured passengers were immediately transferred to the Gondia District Hospital for treatment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the loss of lives in the tragic incident and announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased. On social media, he posted: “Distressed by the loss of lives in the bus mishap in Gondia, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is assisting those affected.”
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also offered his condolences and ordered the state transport authorities to provide immediate assistance of ₹10 lakh to the victims. In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), it was confirmed that eight bodies had been recovered from the site, and further investigations were underway to determine the cause of the accident. The statement also assured that the injured passengers would receive proper treatment.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in his statement, conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased. “It is very unfortunate that a Shivshahi bus met with an unfortunate accident near Sadak Arjun in Gondia district, in which some passengers died,” he posted on social media. Fadnavis also directed the Gondia administration to ensure that the injured receive prompt medical attention and be transferred to Nagpur if necessary.
The district administration has mobilized all resources to provide relief, with senior officials on the ground coordinating rescue operations and treatment for the injured. As the investigations continue, the authorities are focusing on determining the cause of the accident, with initial reports suggesting a possible loss of control by the driver.
