In a unique celebration of Northeast India’s rich cultural heritage, Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sukanta Majumdar surprised attendees by walking the ramp during the fashion show at the ongoing Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav in New Delhi. The three-day event aims to showcase the vibrant culture, artistry, and economic potential of the northeastern states.

A Celebration of Style and Culture

Dressed in traditional northeastern-style jackets, the ministers promoted the region’s fashion during the show. Scindia, also the Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, described the event as a celebration of creativity and cultural diversity. Sharing photos of the event on social media, he wrote, “Had an amazing time at the fashion show showcasing the vibrant styles of Northeast India! Each state was beautifully represented by talented artists and models.”

The fashion show put northeastern fashion in the spotlight, featuring regional textiles, designs, and accessories that represent the unique traditions of the eight northeastern states—Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim.

About Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav

The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is a celebration of Northeast India’s cultural, social, and economic contributions to the nation. The festival includes:

Ashtalakshmi – The Prosperity of Eight States

The festival derives its name from the eight northeastern states, often referred to as ‘Ashtalakshmi,’ symbolizing forms of prosperity. These states play a vital role in India’s cultural and economic fabric, contributing through their artisanal crafts, agricultural products, and unique geographical indication (GI) items.
