New Delhi: Amid a dip in air pollution levels, the Centre's Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Monday revoked restrictions under Stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR. The decision comes as the city's average Air Quality Index (AQI) fell below the 300 mark due to favourable meteorological conditions that aided the dispersion of pollutants.

Ex-Serviceman Killed, Wife and Daughter Injured in Terrorist Attack in Kashmir’s Kulgam

An ex-Army man was killed, and his wife and daughter were injured in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday. The attack took place in the Behibagh area, where terrorists opened fire on 39-year-old Manzoor Ahmad Wagay and his family. While Wagay succumbed to his injuries, his wife, Aaina Akhtar (32), and niece, Saina Hameed (13), sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable.

The Indian Army condemned the attack, stating that the incident was a “cowardly act of terror on unarmed citizens,” which reflects the desperation of elements opposing peace and prosperity in Kashmir. A joint team of police, paramilitary forces, and the Army has cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate the attackers.

Rising Security Concerns

Security forces have been on high alert following a series of recent attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Last month, an Indian Army soldier was killed during an overnight encounter with terrorists in Sopore. The soldier was wounded in a gunfight in the Zaloora Gujjarpati area and succumbed to his injuries while being evacuated.

In another incident in October, two Army soldiers and two civilian porters were killed when terrorists ambushed an Army vehicle in Gulmarg’s Botapathri area. That attack came just hours after a labourer from Uttar Pradesh was shot and injured in Pulwama’s Batgund Tral area. This was the third attack targeting non-local labourers in Kashmir within a week, raising concerns over the safety of migrant workers in the region.

Authorities have intensified counter-terror operations across Kashmir, with security forces conducting routine search operations and maintaining a tight vigil in vulnerable areas. The latest attack in Kulgam underscores the ongoing threat of terrorism in the valley and the challenges faced by security personnel in restoring lasting peace.

Investigation Underway

The security forces are actively pursuing leads to track down the assailants involved in the Kulgam attack. Meanwhile, officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.

The attack on Wagay, an ex-serviceman, is seen as a direct attempt by terrorists to instill fear among civilians. However, authorities have assured that strong action will be taken against those responsible for the act.

The situation remains tense as security personnel continue to monitor the region, ensuring safety and stability for its residents.
