New Delhi: The Supreme Court has publicly released a report detailing the discovery of a substantial cash stash, including burnt currency notes, at the residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma. The report, made available on the apex court’s website late on Saturday, includes photographs and visuals of the charred cash bundles, as shared with the Delhi High Court Chief Justice by the Delhi Police Commissioner.
The shocking discovery came after firefighters were called to douse a blaze at Justice Varma’s residence. Upon extinguishing the fire, they reportedly found large amounts of cash, some of which were burnt. The Supreme Court’s report sheds light on these findings, bringing the matter into the public domain.
Following the revelations, Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya has urged Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna to order a thorough investigation into the matter. The findings presented by the Delhi Police Commissioner have raised serious concerns, prompting calls for a detailed probe to ascertain the origins and purpose of the recovered cash.
The case has sparked significant legal and public interest, with many awaiting further developments on potential judicial and law enforcement actions. As the Supreme Court has now made the information public, legal experts anticipate that necessary steps will be taken to ensure a transparent and impartial inquiry into the matter.
