Rescue operations are underway after a tragic incident at a smelting plant in Saragaon, Mungeli district.

Mungeli, Chhattisgarh – In a shocking incident on Thursday, a chimney at a smelting plant in Mungeli’s Saragaon area collapsed, leaving several workers feared trapped beneath the debris. According to officials, two labourers sustained injuries and were promptly rushed to a hospital in Bilaspur for treatment.

The collapse involved a silo, an iron structure typically used for storing bulk materials, which gave way unexpectedly during operations. The Mungeli Superintendent of Police, Bhojram Patel, stated that initial reports indicate several workers were present at the site when the structure came down.

Emergency services were alerted immediately, prompting a swift response from rescue teams. “A rescue operation was launched as soon as the police were informed,” Patel said. “Two injured workers have been safely evacuated, but many more are believed to be trapped under the collapsed structure. Efforts to locate and rescue them are ongoing.”

The incident has raised concerns over safety protocols at the plant. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the collapse, and an investigation is expected to follow once rescue efforts conclude.

The steel plant in question is a major facility in the region, employing hundreds of workers. Families of the workers have gathered at the site, anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones.
