PM Modi Unveils Development Projects Worth ₹20,000 Crore in Tamil Nadu's Tiruchirappalli

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a multitude of transformative development ventures amounting to over ₹20,000 crore in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirappalli. The array of projects spans diverse sectors such as aviation, railways, roads, oil and gas, shipping, and higher education, reflecting a significant investment towards the state’s progress.

Amidst the inauguration spree, PM Modi unveiled the brand-new terminal building at the Tiruchirappalli International Airport. This state-of-the-art, two-level terminal, constructed at a cost exceeding ₹1100 crore, boasts a capacity to accommodate over 44 lakh passengers annually and facilitate approximately 3,500 passengers during peak hours. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) highlighted these details in an official release preceding the inauguration.

During his address to the audience, PM Modi expressed his aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous 2024 for all. He acknowledged the significance of commencing the year’s public engagements in Tamil Nadu, lauding the projects’ collective worth of nearly ₹20,000 crore as a pivotal force fortifying the state’s advancement.

Recognizing the recent adversities faced by Tamil Nadu due to heavy rainfall and subsequent floods towards the end of 2023, PM Modi conveyed heartfelt condolences for the lives lost and the significant property damage. He assured that the central government stands in solidarity with the affected populace, extending comprehensive support to the state administration during this challenging period.

PM Modi’s visit to Tiruchirappalli included his participation in the Bharathidasan University’s 38th Convocation Ceremony, where he drew inspiration from Tamil poet Bharathidasan’s ‘Puthiyathor Ulagam Seivom’ verses, which espouse the creation of a bold and pioneering world – an ethos resonating with the university’s motto.

Highlighting the strides made by Indian youth and scientists, PM Modi emphasized the country’s notable accomplishments, citing landmark missions like Chandrayaan-3 and the exponential increase in patents from 4,000 in 2014 to nearly 50,000 presently, attributed to the innovative endeavors of Indian talent.

The Prime Minister’s ongoing two-day visit to the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, along with the Union Territory of Lakshadweep from January 2-3, underscores the government’s commitment to fostering regional development and progress across various sectors.
