“Parents of Murdered RG Kar Doctor Express Heartbreak as Ex-Principal and Officer Get Bail”

Parents of Murdered RG Kar Doctor Express Heartbreak After Bail Granted to Ex-Principal and Officer

The parents of the murdered doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata are expressing their heartbreak and frustration after two key accused in the case were granted bail on Friday. Former hospital principal Sandip Ghosh and ex-officer-in-charge of the Tala police station, Abhijit Mondal, were both released on bail, leaving the family devastated and disillusioned with the justice system.

The bail was granted after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is handling the investigation, failed to submit a chargesheet within the mandated 90-day period. The CBI had arrested Ghosh and Mondal on accusations of tampering with evidence and facilitating the hasty cremation of the victim, a trainee female doctor who was raped and murdered on August 9. The victim’s family had also called for a second autopsy, but their demands were not met.

The former police officer, Mondal, faced additional accusations of delaying the filing of the FIR in the rape and murder case, further intensifying the family’s frustration.

The doctor’s parents, devastated by the bail decision, have voiced their disappointment with the CBI, expressing the belief that the “system” is failing them. The victim’s mother shared her despair, stating, “We thought the CBI would speed up the investigation and bring those responsible to justice. But now, with the accused being granted bail, it feels like the system is failing us.”

She further explained the constant anxiety her family faces, wondering if the powerful would once again escape justice, as has happened in many other cases. The victim’s father echoed these sentiments, saying, “We are heartbroken. We trusted the CBI to deliver justice, but now we are left wondering if we will ever see justice for our daughter.”

The murder of the young doctor has deeply shaken the state, prompting widespread protests across West Bengal. Public outrage over the case escalated to such an extent that the high court intervened and handed over the investigation to the CBI, after allegations of mishandling by local police officers.

As the CBI investigates further, the victim’s family is left grappling with a sense of helplessness, questioning whether justice will ever be served in their daughter’s tragic case.
