Survivors Recount Horrific Details of J&K Terror Attack on Pilgrims

In a tragic incident on June 9, survivors of a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district have come forward with harrowing accounts of the ordeal. The attackers relentlessly fired at a bus carrying pilgrims for nearly 20 minutes after it fell into a gorge following the driver being hit in the firing.

The survivors, who bravely managed to escape the onslaught, recounted the terrifying moments. Bhawani Shankar from Tughlakabad extension in Delhi, who was on a pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine with his family on their marriage anniversary, described how the terrorists kept firing even after the bus crashed, forcing him to shield his children under the seats amidst the chaos.

Tragically, not everyone survived the brutal attack. A family from Rajasthan’s Jaipur lost four members, including a 2-year-old boy, in the assault. Similarly, two cousins from Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur district also lost their lives in this senseless act of violence.

Survivors shared how they pretended to be dead inside the bus until the terrorists assumed their mission was complete and left the scene. Rajat Ram Sharma, who lost his 14-year-old son in the attack, recalled the frantic moments of trying to protect his family as chaos erupted.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration, led by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, swiftly responded to the tragedy. They visited hospitals where the injured were being treated and announced financial assistance of ₹10 lakh to the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 to each of the injured survivors.

Security forces have intensified their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators, with 15 teams actively working on the case. Some arrests have already been made, and investigations are ongoing.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a social media front for various terrorist outfits, has claimed responsibility for this heinous act, which has drawn widespread condemnation across the region. Authorities and citizens alike have expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and reiterated their resolve to combat such acts of terrorism.
