A devastating car accident in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, claimed the lives of six individuals and left two others injured early Monday morning, police reported.
The tragic incident occurred near Circuit House Square in the Bistupur police station area around 5 am. Senior Superintendent of Police, Kaushal Kishore, revealed that a five-seater car was carrying eight individuals when it collided with a road divider and then struck a roadside pole.
“Of the eight occupants, five lost their lives on the spot, while three others sustained injuries. Unfortunately, one more person succumbed to injuries upon reaching the hospital, leaving two individuals currently receiving medical treatment,” SSP Kishore conveyed to news agency PTI. Further details regarding the accident are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
The high speed at which the vehicle was traveling contributed to the severity of the collision. SSP Kishore highlighted the impact’s intensity, which left all eight passengers trapped inside the vehicle, necessitating their rescue using a gas cutter.
The victims were identified as residents of Baba Ashram in the RIT police station area of Saraikela-Kharswan district. Reportedly, the group had gathered for a ‘Litti Party,’ a traditional cuisine celebration from Bihar, until late Sunday night. Subsequently, against the advice of their family members, they embarked on their journey to Jamshedpur around 4:30 am on Monday.
Expressing sorrow over the tragic loss of lives, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren extended his condolences. “Heartbroken by the sad news of the death of 6 people in a road accident in Jamshedpur. May God grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to the bereaved family members to bear this difficult time of grief,” Mr. Soren expressed. He also wished for a swift recovery for the injured individuals involved in the accident.
The accident stands as a stark reminder of the risks associated with high-speed travel and the devastating consequences it can entail.
