Two More Arrested in Baba Siddique Murder Case by Mumbai Crime Branch

The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police has made two additional arrests in connection with the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to 18. On Thursday, the police apprehended Aditya Gudankar and Rafiq Shaikh, both from Pune, Maharashtra. The duo was presented before the Esplanade Court and has been remanded to police custody until November 13.

The Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission has proposed several new safety measures aimed at enhancing the protection of women in public and commercial spaces. Among the key recommendations discussed at a meeting on October 28 in Lucknow, the commission has suggested banning male tailors from taking women’s measurements and restricting male trainers from conducting gym and yoga sessions for women. These proposals are part of a broader initiative to ensure safer environments for women across the state.

Despite a reduction in the contribution from stubble burning, Delhi's air quality continued to remain in the "very poor" category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 387 at 12 PM on Friday, dangerously close to the "severe" range. The AQI had registered 390 at 11 AM, and 377 as the 24-hour average on Thursday. The high pollution levels have led to poor visibility and widespread health concerns for the residents of the national capital.

National Institute of Technology Delhi (NIT Delhi) has celebrated 3rd Anniversary of National Education Policy 2020 (NEP – 2020). The Hon’ble Director of NIT Delhi invited the NIT Delhi family and addressed shed light on the progressive measures undertaken in the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) – 2020. Prof. Ajay K Sharma emphasized on the modern learning and teaching methodology to make education more reachable, accessible and innovative. Prof. Sharma highlighted that the Institute has been ranked 51 in the Engineering Category of the NIRF ranking for year 2023. Prof. Sharma insisted that the institute intends to provide a holistic approach for the engineers and researchers and has implemented several new schemes and additional programs.

The Institute has revised the curriculum for BTech and MTech programmes since AY 2022-23 to provide opportunities for skillful education. The students will get the benefit to study laboratory integrated courses since beginning of their Course/program. Institute organizes Industry expert lectures regularly for knowledge updation of students. NEP-2020 has been implemented for UG and PG programs with multiple exit/entry option. A student can take re-Entry to the program at the stage he/she quits between a periods of 3 years.

The Institute has been instrumental in effective implementation of Minor Degree for BTech projects. The student can opt for minor degree after 4th semester. A student can study a maximum of 2 subjects in a semester. Institute has implemented Minor degree programs in AIML, SoC Design, and Reliability Engineering etc. Newer Minor Degree shall be added from time as per the industry requirements in future.

The Institute has implemented Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). Students belonging to eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) can avail the facility of ABC.

Mandatory Internship from 3 months to 6 months/1 year students of UG and PG programmes respectively has been implemented by the Institute from AY 2022-23. Any financial gain resulted because of any IPR/commercial development involving the Internship of the student will be shared with the Institute equally.

The Institute has implemented the study through MOOC/Online Courses with a limit of up to 20 % credits. 50% courses of the Minor Degree can be learnt through MOOC/NPTEL/Coursera etc. Institute intends to start online course soon in the industry oriented disciplines/thrust areas to up-skill the serving technocrats.

Academia-Industry-Research (AIR) Synchronization has been implemented by the Institute, where students are encouraged to work on real time industry problems as a part of PhD/MTech/BTech project work with participation of Research Organization/Industry Mentor as Co-Supervisor. NIT Delhi intends to mandate the participation of faculties for AIR interaction and collaboration.

NIT Delhi has jointly supervised in the past years for UG/PG thesis and doctoral supervision by academia and industry/R& D experts. We have also started the post doctoral fellowship program. Institute has entered into several MoUs with IITs/NITs/GFTIs/Overseas for academic exchange of students.

The Institute has also implemented Earn While Learn Scheme (EWL) for meritorious students where opportunities for part time engagement will be provided to needy students. It attempts to mitigate the economic hardships of learning and enhance the learner’s adaptability. It provides students opportunities to develop their personality, gain technical skills and build their entrepreneurial ability.

The Institute has been constantly motivating the faculty/students for research publications/patents/projects, as per the case. We have been collaborating with the industry/R &D organizations for exposure to real time problems. The Institute is also looking forward to collaborating with the reputed foreign academic institution (QS ranking up to 500).

NIT Delhi intends to implement NCRF from the AY 2023-24 as suggested by the Ministry of Education. Curriculum has been revised and in-line with NEP-2020 for UG and PG programs. The press conference served as a platform for the panel to highlight the progress made so far in the implementation of NEP – 2020 and the collective efforts put forth by various educational institutions in achieving its objectives.
