The Indian Army has reported significant advancements in its counter-terror operations, thanks to the integration of unmanned vehicles and artificial intelligence (AI). These tools played a crucial role in neutralizing three terrorists in the Akhnoor sector following an incident where the terrorists fired upon an ambulance in the army’s convoy.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Major General Sameer Shrivastava, General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the 10 Infantry Division, highlighted the effective use of technology in the operation. “We have used unmanned vehicles and artificial intelligence that gave us a quick and successful result,” he stated. The operation took a tragic turn when Phantom, a four-year-old sniffer dog, was killed while attempting to protect the troops from the terrorists’ attack. Major General Shrivastava acknowledged the sacrifice of the canine, emphasizing that it helped save many lives.

The operation was launched after the terrorists opened fire on the ambulance, prompting a swift response from security forces. “When these individuals were detected, we received information from the village, allowing us to act quickly,” Major General Shrivastava explained. He added that the terrorists seemed well-armed and were likely planning a significant attack, which increased the urgency of the operation.

The counter-terror operation is part of Operation Asan, a broader initiative by Indian security forces following previous terrorist attacks in the region. Following the shooting incident, the area was sealed off, and a coordinated search operation involving Jammu and Kashmir police and the Indian Army was initiated.

Officials confirmed that the unmanned vehicles were crucial in navigating the challenging terrain, characterized by steep gradients and dense forests, to locate the terrorists. The use of these technologies is seen as a significant enhancement to the army’s operational capabilities in counter-terrorism efforts.

The Indian Army continues to coordinate closely with intelligence agencies to maintain security in Jammu and Kashmir, where tensions remain high. The recent operations reflect ongoing efforts to counter terrorist threats and ensure the safety of both military personnel and civilians in the region.
