The Indian Army, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police and intelligence agencies, thwarted an infiltration bid by terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Baramulla district. During the operation, three terrorists were shot dead, while a cross-border exchange of fire with Pakistani forces ensued.
The encounter unfolded when three to four terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Uri sector, leading to a fierce gunfight that lasted for approximately two hours. Indian forces employed rocket launchers and heavy weapons to neutralize the infiltrators.
Brigadier PMS Dhillon, a senior army officer, reported, “While two terrorists were killed, a third, who was injured, fled back with the assistance of covering fire from the Pakistan Army.”
Significantly, the Pakistan Army provided fire support to the injured terrorist and also targeted Indian quadcopters during the operation, as noted by Brigadier Dhillon.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the retrieval of the bodies of the two eliminated terrorists. However, Pakistani forces’ firing hampered efforts to recover the third terrorist’s body, marking a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement established along the LoC in 2021.
The army reported that the operation in the Uri sector is ongoing, with a joint effort by Indian security forces and intelligence agencies to secure the region.
The Chinar Corps stated, “In a joint operation launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and intelligence agencies, an infiltration bid was foiled today in the morning hours along the LoC in Uri sector, Baramulla. Three terrorists who attempted to infiltrate were engaged by alert troops.”
The situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains tense, as another encounter in the Anantnag district has entered its fourth day. Terrorists are currently holed up in a cave atop a hill, prolonging the security operation.
The successful thwarting of this infiltration attempt reflects the continued vigilance and determination of Indian security forces in maintaining the security and stability of the region amidst persistent threats from across the border.
