Former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai Resigns as MLA from Shiggaon, Wins Lok Sabha Seat

In a significant political development, former Chief Minister of Karnataka and prominent BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai tendered his resignation as the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Shiggaon constituency on Saturday. Bommai’s decision to step down from the state assembly comes after his successful election to the Haveri Lok Sabha constituency during the recent general elections.

Basavaraj Bommai, a seasoned politician known for his administrative acumen and grassroots connect, clinched victory in his maiden Lok Sabha electoral battle by securing a comfortable margin of 43,513 votes over his closest contender. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership handpicked Bommai as their candidate for the Haveri Lok Sabha seat following the announcement of incumbent MP Shivakumar Udasi’s retirement from active politics.

Reflecting on his electoral triumph and subsequent resignation as MLA, Bommai expressed gratitude to the people of Haveri for their overwhelming support and trust. “I am humbled by the faith reposed in me by the voters of Haveri. This victory is a testament to our party’s vision and the tireless efforts of our cadre,” remarked Bommai during a press interaction following his resignation.

The BJP stalwart’s resignation from the Shiggaon Assembly seat necessitates a by-election in the constituency, prompting speculations about the party’s choice for the upcoming polls. When questioned about the possibility of his son receiving the BJP ticket for the Shiggaon by-election, Bommai deferred the decision to the party’s leadership, underscoring the importance of adhering to the party’s directives.

“The party will decide on the ticket issue. We must adhere to the party’s decision. Whomever the party gives the ticket to, I will work sincerely for them,” affirmed Bommai, emphasizing his commitment to the BJP’s organizational ethos.

Basavaraj Bommai’s tenure as Chief Minister of Karnataka was marked by initiatives aimed at fostering development and addressing key governance challenges. His transition to national politics signifies a strategic move within the BJP’s leadership ranks, showcasing the party’s emphasis on experienced leaders to drive its agenda at both state and national levels.
