Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has brought festive cheer to beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme by announcing the distribution of free cooking gas cylinders as a special Diwali gift. The Ujjwala scheme, designed to provide free LPG connections to women from below the poverty line households, was a pre-election commitment by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Adityanath’s recent announcement signifies his government’s dedication to fulfilling this promise and furthering its support for women-centric initiatives.
This heartwarming announcement came as Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a gathering of BJP’s women from Bulandshahr in western Uttar Pradesh. During the event, the Chief Minister also launched or laid the foundation stones for several projects with a combined value of ₹632 crore.
In a display of the government’s commitment to uplifting the lives of the citizens, Adityanath inaugurated 104 projects with a total worth of ₹208 crore and laid the foundation stones for an additional 152 projects valued at ₹424 crore.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Adityanath expressed the intention to honor his party’s commitment by offering a free cooking gas cylinder to the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme as a Diwali gift. He also took the opportunity to remind the women in attendance of the transformative changes ushered in by his government.
Yogi Adityanath highlighted the remarkable progress made through the Ujjwala scheme. He noted that before 2014, obtaining a cooking gas cylinder was a daunting challenge for many. However, today, approximately 1.75 crore women have reaped the benefits of this scheme.
In his address, Adityanath went on to discuss other women-centric initiatives launched by his government. He proudly mentioned the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which has provided over 55 lakh women in Uttar Pradesh with homes of their own. Additionally, the “Swachh Bharat” initiative has led to the construction of 2.75 lakh toilets in the state, greatly benefiting women and promoting cleanliness.
To further underscore the government’s commitment to empowering women, Chief Minister Adityanath referred to programs like “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.” These initiatives exemplify the BJP’s dedication to advancing women’s rights and promoting their overall well-being.
The distribution of free LPG cylinders to Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries serves not only as a Diwali gift but as a symbol of the government’s unwavering support for women’s welfare, emphasizing the importance of women in building a prosperous and equitable society.
