Delhiites experienced a respite from scorching temperatures as rains swept through several parts of the city, offering a welcome break from the relentless heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 44 degrees Celsius, providing some relief to residents from the intense heat.
The weather department has forecasted thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph in Delhi and adjoining areas over the next two hours. This sudden change in weather brought about by the monsoon showers has significantly lowered the mercury levels, with the maximum temperature recorded at 48 degrees Celsius.
Relative humidity levels fluctuated between 22 per cent and 33 per cent, contributing to the cooling effect brought by the rains. Various weather stations across Delhi reported temperatures, with Najafgarh at 46.4 degrees Celsius, Narela at 46.3 degrees Celsius, Aya Nagar at 45 degrees Celsius, Ridge at 44.3 degrees Celsius, and Palam at 44.4 degrees Celsius.
Looking ahead, the weather office predicts a partly cloudy sky accompanied by a dust storm or thunderstorm, along with very light rain and strong surface winds of 30 to 40 kmph on Thursday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to reach 42 and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively, providing a continued reprieve from the intense heatwave conditions.
