Today, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud expressed deep sorrow over the passing of acclaimed jurist Fali Nariman, stating that Nariman’s voice resonated as the conscience of a generation. The legal luminary, aged 95, succumbed to multiple ailments, including cardiac issues, in Delhi.
Chief Justice Chandrachud conveyed his condolences, emphasizing Nariman’s fearless expression of views and his significant influence as a mentor to numerous lawyers and judges. He described Nariman as not only a towering intellectual but also a compassionate father figure, marking his departure as a profound loss.
Throughout his illustrious career, Fali Nariman left an indelible mark through his advocacy in numerous landmark cases, notably the one pertaining to the National Judicial Appointments Commission, a case that reached the Supreme Court.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Nariman, hailing him as one of the foremost legal minds and intellectuals dedicated to ensuring justice for all. Modi expressed deep sadness at Nariman’s demise and extended condolences to his family and admirers, praying for peace for the departed soul.
