The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has called for a statewide bandh in Andhra Pradesh tomorrow, September 11, in protest against the arrest of their party chief and former Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu. The arrest is linked to a case involving alleged misappropriation of government funds.
TDP AP president K Atchannaidu issued a statement urging the party’s cadre, the public, and civil society to actively participate in the bandh and ensure its success. The party’s decision to organize a bandh comes in response to what they perceive as the “illegal arrest” of Nara Chandrababu Naidu and what they describe as “atrocities on the party cadre” and “vengeful politics.”
A press release from the Telugu Desam Party explained their stance: “The Telugu Desam Party has called for a statewide bandh tomorrow, Monday (September 11) in protest against the illegal arrest of Nara Chandrababu Naidu, atrocities on the party cadre, and vengeful politics.”
Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest follows a local court in Vijayawada remanding him in judicial custody for 14 days. He faces allegations related to a multi-crore corruption scam that revolves around the misappropriation of funds from the Skill Development Corporation, which has purportedly caused a loss of ₹300 crore to the state government. These allegations were clarified by AP CID Chief N Sanjay on Saturday.
The statewide bandh serves as a prominent demonstration of the TDP’s discontent with the circumstances surrounding Naidu’s arrest and their commitment to demanding justice and transparency in the legal proceedings. The situation continues to unfold, with political developments expected in the coming days as the bandh takes place and legal proceedings progress.
