Atishi's Health Update: AAP Leader Stable After ICU Stay

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi’s health took a critical turn as she was admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to very low blood sugar levels during the early hours of Tuesday. The incident occurred on the fifth day of her indefinite hunger strike, which she initiated amidst the Delhi water crisis.

Medical Director Suresh Kumar of LNJP Hospital reported that Atishi’s condition was extremely concerning upon admission. She displayed signs of very low blood sugar and drowsiness, necessitating immediate medical attention. “At the time of admission, she was drowsy, her blood sugars were very low, and ketones were present in the urine,” Kumar stated.

The hospital’s medical team conducted vital parameter checks and blood tests, confirming her critically low blood sugar levels and a Sodium level of 127. Despite initially refusing admission, Atishi was shifted to the Emergency ICU due to her weakened state.

As of the latest update, Atishi’s condition has stabilized, with normal vital parameters and blood sugar levels. She is currently under observation and receiving oral fluids, indicating positive progress in her recovery.

Atishi commenced her hunger strike on June 21 to protest the Delhi water crisis, specifically demanding increased water supply from Haryana to the national capital. Allegations have been made against the BJP government in Haryana for reducing water supply to Delhi since the initiation of Atishi’s strike.

The water scarcity in Delhi has worsened due to soaring temperatures and limited supply, leading to ongoing struggles for daily water access among residents. Water tankers are unable to meet the rising demand, exacerbating the crisis amid prevailing heatwave conditions.

The AAP’s advocacy for improved water supply and Atishi’s health condition remain focal points in the ongoing discourse surrounding Delhi’s water crisis and efforts to address the challenging situation faced by its residents.

The AAP continues to press for increased water allocation from neighboring states, emphasizing the urgency of resolving the water scarcity issue for the well-being of Delhi’s populace.
