Pune's Murlidhar Mohol Appointed to Civil Aviation and Cooperation Ministries

In a significant development for Pune, Murlidhar Mohol, the Member of Parliament representing the city, has been appointed as Minister of State (MoS) with crucial portfolios of Civil Aviation and Cooperation in the Union Cabinet. This announcement, made from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday evening, underscores the growing importance of Pune in India’s aviation and cooperative sectors.

Civil aviation holds particular significance for Pune, with ongoing efforts to expand Pune airport and proposals for a new airport at Purandar. Currently operating under the Ministry of Defence, Pune airport faces operational limitations due to its dual military-civilian nature. Mohol’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture as the city seeks to enhance its aviation infrastructure and connectivity.

Expressing his commitment to the responsibilities entrusted to him, Mohol emphasized his dedication to working under the leadership of Amit Shah, the Cabinet Minister for Cooperation. This move has sparked optimism among stakeholders, with hopes high for Mohol’s influence in advancing projects such as the Pune airport expansion.

Industry leaders and representatives have welcomed Mohol’s appointment, recognizing the potential benefits it could bring to Pune’s economy and infrastructure. Sudhir Mehta, an industrialist and former president of MCCIA, praised the decision, highlighting the positive impact on Pune’s connectivity and overall development.

Prashant Girbane, Director General of MCCIA, expressed eagerness to collaborate with Mohol, foreseeing “better civil aviation days ahead” for Pune. Amit Paranjape, a city-based entrepreneur, echoed similar sentiments, noting the strategic importance of civil aviation for Pune’s growth.

Apart from civil aviation, Mohol’s role in the Ministry of Cooperation is also crucial, particularly for western Maharashtra, which houses numerous cooperative institutions such as sugar mills and credit societies. With Amit Shah leading the Ministry of Cooperation, Mohol’s appointment is expected to contribute significantly to cooperative sector reforms and development in the region.

Overall, Murlidhar Mohol’s dual ministerial roles signal a promising phase for Pune’s aviation sector and cooperative landscape, with expectations of enhanced infrastructure, economic growth, and collaborative initiatives under his leadership.
