Former Rajasthan Minister Mahendrajeet Malviya Joins BJP, Cites Development Focus

In a significant political development in Rajasthan, four-time Congress MLA and former minister Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya announced his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. Malviya, representing the Bagidora constituency in Banswara district, cited his alignment with the BJP’s development agenda for the Vagad region as the primary reason behind his move.

Vagad, known for its tribal population, encompasses Banswara and Dungarpur districts in southern Rajasthan. Malviya’s decision to switch parties marks a notable setback for the Congress in the state.

Expressing his commitment to the BJP’s vision for the region, Malviya emphasized his belief that the BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is best suited to address the developmental needs of tribal areas like Vagad. He highlighted his recent meetings with top BJP leaders, including party chief JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, as influential factors in his decision-making process.

During a press conference at the BJP office in Jaipur, Malviya voiced his disappointment with the Congress, citing their absence at the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya as a contributing factor to his departure. He declared his allegiance to the BJP with utmost dedication, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to deliver on its promises for the welfare of tribal communities.

Malviya’s decision was met with a warm welcome by senior BJP leaders, including Rajasthan in-charge Arun Singh and state unit chief CP Joshi. Joshi highlighted Malviya’s admiration for the policies and initiatives undertaken by the Modi government as pivotal in his transition to the BJP fold.

Having served as an MLA since 2008, Malviya boasts a significant political experience. He held ministerial positions in the Rajasthan Cabinet from 2008 to 2013 and again from 2021 to 2023. Additionally, Malviya represented Banswara in the Lok Sabha as a Congress candidate in 1998 before focusing on his legislative duties in the state assembly.

Malviya’s defection to the BJP not only underscores the shifting political dynamics in Rajasthan but also underscores the BJP’s continued efforts to expand its presence and influence in the state. As both parties gear up for upcoming electoral battles, Malviya’s move may potentially shape the political landscape in the region in the days to come.
