A heartbreaking incident occurred on Wednesday when a boat carrying passengers capsized in the Saryu River, located in Bihar’s Saran district. The tragedy has resulted in the loss of two lives, while seven individuals are currently missing and feared to have drowned.
Nine passengers on board the ill-fated boat managed to swim to the riverbank, marking a fortunate escape from the sinking vessel. Regrettably, the bodies of two women who lost their lives were recovered from the river, as reported by officials.
Amid the distressing situation, authorities have expressed concerns for the seven individuals still unaccounted for. Search and rescue efforts are being tirelessly carried out throughout the night in hopes of locating any survivors and recovering the missing persons.
Saran District Magistrate Aman Samir provided insights into the tragic incident, stating, “The incident took place around 6.30 pm when a boat carrying 18 people capsized in the Saryu River near Matiyar Ghat in Manjhi block.” A rescue operation has been swiftly launched, and authorities are working diligently to identify the deceased. Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the heart-wrenching incident.
This incident follows another major boat capsize tragedy in Bihar, where on September 14, more than 15 children were feared drowned when a boat carrying them capsized in the Bagmati River in Muzaffarpur district. The incident took place while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was visiting the district to review the progress of various ongoing projects.
