Pakistani Troops Fire at Indian Posts and Residential Areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Injuring BSF Jawan

Border tensions flared once again as Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked firing and mortar shelling in the Arnia sector along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir. The incident resulted in injuries to at least three individuals, including a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, and caused residents to flee their homes following mortar shell impacts in residential areas.

The BSF reported that it effectively responded to the firing from Pakistan. According to a BSF spokesperson, Pakistan Rangers engaged in unprovoked firing on BSF posts in the Arnia sector, and the BSF forces promptly retaliated in kind. The exchange of fire also involved mortar shelling and persisted until 3 a.m.

This overnight shelling incident marks one of the most significant ceasefire violations along the international border since the ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan in February 2021. Only a week ago, two BSF jawans were injured in Pakistani firing in the Arnia sector. However, the situation was swiftly brought under control through a flag meeting between local commanders of the BSF and Rangers on the border.

Local residents recounted that the firing commenced at 8 p.m. on Thursday, accompanied by the loud explosions of mortar guns being used by both sides. Some residential houses were struck during the overnight shelling, resulting in damages to at least one residence. The intensity of the shelling prompted numerous villagers to evacuate their homes and seek refuge in safer locations.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing border tensions and the potential for sudden escalations in the volatile region of Jammu and Kashmir.
