Gujarat Hospital Confirms No Dog Bite Marks on Parag Desai's Body Amid Tragic Passing

In a significant development regarding the tragic passing of Parag Desai, the executive director of the renowned Wagh Bakri Tea Group, the Gujarat hospital that provided medical treatment has confirmed the absence of any dog bite marks on his body. Parag Desai, whose family business reported an annual turnover of ₹2000 crore last year, lost his life on Sunday after a distressing incident in which he attempted to fend off street dogs. He was 49 years old and leaves behind his wife and daughter.

The unfortunate incident unfolded on October 15 when Parag Desai was taking a stroll near his residence in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. During his walk, he sustained a severe head injury while trying to deter street dogs. Initially, he was admitted to Ahmedabad’s Shalby Hospital, and after a day of medical care, he was transferred to Zydus Hospital within the city.

In response to the incident, Shalby Hospital has revealed that Parag Desai displayed no dog bite marks when he arrived at the hospital. They issued a statement explaining that he was found unconscious and unresponsive upon his arrival at the emergency department. “It was stated that the patient fell down after being chased by dogs but apparently there were no dog bite marks on his body,” the hospital statement noted.

Medical diagnosis at the hospital indicated that Parag Desai suffered from acute subdural hematoma with bilateral frontal confusion. Dr. Nishita Shukla, Group COO of Shalby Hospitals, informed that they had recommended keeping him under observation for 72 hours. Ultimately, he was discharged upon the request of his family.

The Wagh Bakri Tea Group shared the sad news of Parag Desai’s demise in an Instagram post, expressing their profound grief.

Parag Desai, a fourth-generation entrepreneur and an MBA graduate from Long Island University in New York, played a pivotal role in overseeing the company’s sales, marketing, and export division. He joined the family business in 1995 and was instrumental in the company’s remarkable transition from a ₹100 crore firm to a ₹2000 crore behemoth.

Notably, Parag Desai was recognized as a generous benefactor of animal welfare, specifically a staunch supporter of street dogs. In response to his passing, Kamna Pandey, an animal rights activist, paid tribute to him on social media, highlighting his dedication to the cause and his familiarity with street dog behavior. She emphasized that it was highly unlikely that he panicked during the dog-related incident, as he was known to be a dog lover.

Pandey suggested that the dogs might have been barking to seek assistance, and when passersby noticed the commotion, they may have misconstrued it as an attack.
