Arti Singh Appointed Mumbai’s First Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) in IPS Reshuffle

The Maharashtra government has appointed IPS officer Arti Singh of the 2006 batch as Mumbai’s first-ever Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), marking a significant move to strengthen intelligence operations in the city. The new post is the sixth joint commissioner position created recently by the state government by downgrading the rank of the special commissioner from additional director general (ADG) to joint commissioner level to boost intelligence gathering capabilities in Mumbai.

In addition to Singh’s historic appointment, the state government carried out a major reshuffle involving transfers and promotions of senior police officials across Maharashtra. Around a dozen deputy inspector general (DIG) rank officers were transferred, and 14 superintendents of police (SPs) were promoted to DIG rank.

Some key transfers announced include:

  • Anil Paraskar, former Additional Commissioner of Mumbai’s Central Region, moved to the Protection and Security Department.
  • Vinita Sahu, current Additional CP (Protection and Security), transferred to Local Arms.
  • Shailesh Balkawade shifted from Additional CP (Crime) Pune to Additional CP (Crime) Mumbai.
  • Shashi Kumar Meena appointed Additional CP (North Region), Mumbai.
  • Pravin Patil transferred from Pune to Nagpur as Additional CP.
  • Pramod Shewale promoted to DIG in the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).
  • S T Rathod posted as DIG, Anti-Narcotics Task Force in Nagpur.

Other notable changes include Pune’s Additional CP Arvind Chawariya being appointed as Amravati Police Commissioner, with the post being downgraded. Rakesh Kalasagar, former Commandant of the State Reserve Police Force in Amravati, has been made Mumbai Railway Police Commissioner, also a downgraded post.

Ratnagiri SP Dhananjay Kulkarni has been promoted and posted as Additional CP (Special Branch) in Mumbai, while Nashik Rural SP Vikram Deshmane takes over as Additional CP of Mumbai’s Central Region. Rajendra Dabhade, SP of Protection of Civil Rights, has been promoted and posted as Additional CP in Nagpur.

This reshuffle reflects the Maharashtra government’s ongoing efforts to enhance policing efficiency and intelligence operations in Mumbai and other key districts across the state.
