Amid heightened tensions along the Indo-Pak border following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Indian security forces arrested a 26-year-old Pakistani man who had crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

The individual, identified as Waqas, a resident of Tarkhal village in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), was apprehended by alert army personnel near a forward village in the Chakan-Da-Bagh area shortly after he illegally entered Indian territory. According to officials, he was taken into custody without incident.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Waqas may have crossed over inadvertently. “So far, no incriminating material has been recovered from him,” an official said, adding that further questioning is underway to verify his claims and determine his intentions.

The arrest comes at a time of increased strain between India and Pakistan, following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. The incident has led to daily ceasefire violations and mounting diplomatic tensions between the two neighbours.

Security has been on high alert across the border regions, with increased patrolling and vigilance to prevent any infiltration or security breaches. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
