The death toll from the tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Mustafabad area on Saturday morning has climbed to 11, with the landlord, 60-year-old Tehsin, also confirmed dead. The incident, which occurred around 2:39 am, saw a four-storey residential building reduced to rubble, prompting a massive rescue operation involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, and local police.

Among the deceased, eight were members of a single family. The victims include three women and four children, highlighting the devastating impact the collapse had on families living in the structure. According to Delhi Police, 11 others were injured, with six already discharged from hospitals and five still receiving treatment.

Rescue teams worked tirelessly for over 12 hours to locate and extract the 22 people believed to be trapped under the debris. Emergency response units arrived at the scene within minutes of receiving a distress call at 2:50 am. “The entire building had collapsed and multiple people were trapped underneath,” said Rajendra Atwal, Divisional Fire Officer.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed profound grief over the lives lost and assured the public that a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway. “I express my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in this unfortunate accident. May God grant peace to the departed souls and provide strength to the grieving families to bear this irreparable loss,” she said in a statement.

She confirmed that agencies including the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), NDRF, and Delhi Fire Services were conducting ongoing rescue and search operations.

While the exact cause of the collapse remains unknown, authorities have initiated a formal probe to determine any structural or regulatory lapses. The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of residential buildings in densely populated urban areas.
