
In preparation for the 76th Republic Day celebrations on Sunday, January 26, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced special operating hours and enhanced security measures to accommodate the large number of attendees at the grand parade and ceremonies held at Kartavya Path in Central Delhi.
To ensure smooth transportation for those attending the event, the Delhi Metro will commence services as early as 3:00 AM on all lines. From 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM, trains will run at a frequency of 30 minutes, after which the usual schedule will resume for the remainder of the day.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), DMRC stated:
“As the nation celebrates the pride and spirit of Republic Day, Delhi Metro will commence its services at 3:00 AM on all lines on 26th January 2025 (Sunday) to help people reach Kartavya Path and witness the Republic Day ceremony. To ensure smooth travel for commuters, trains will operate at intervals of 30 minutes until 6:00 AM, after which, the regular timetable will be followed for the rest of the day. Passengers are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly and make use of the early metro services to avoid any last-minute inconvenience.”
DMRC also announced that enhanced security checks will be implemented at all metro stations until January 27, 2025, as part of measures to ensure public safety during the celebrations.
Traffic Advisory for Republic Day
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed advisory, highlighting restrictions in key areas in light of the Republic Day parade and other events. The parade will commence at 10:30 AM, starting from the National War Memorial near India Gate and proceeding to the Red Fort.
Key restrictions include:
- No vehicular entry on Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate from 5:00 PM on January 25 until the conclusion of the parade on January 26.
- Cross-traffic will be prohibited on Kartavya Path at Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Man Singh Road starting 10:00 PM on January 25 until the conclusion of official celebrations the following day.
Additionally, a function at the National War Memorial will take place at 9:30 AM before the parade begins. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and avoid restricted zones to minimize delays.
The DMRC’s early services and the traffic restrictions aim to facilitate seamless participation in the Republic Day celebrations while ensuring safety and convenience for the public.
